Position title
Advanced Life Support (ALS) Provider

This position is responsible for work in supporting the mission of Southside Virginia Emergency Crew by responding to emergency calls in order to provide advanced life support to the ill and injured, and to transport patients to the most appropriate medical facility for definitive care. This position assists in maintaining EMS equipment, EMS units, and a clean EMS station. This position will participate in work related training and will be well versed in the ODEMSA protocols. This position will work under the direction of the assigned Shift Captain.


*  Responds to EMS emergency situations and provides advanced life support services;
*  Performs detailed subjective and objective patient assessments, stabilization and
treatment within established protocols;
*  Coordinates emergency care procedures with other EMS providers on scene and
communicates effectively with emergency room staff;
*  Prepares and maintains daily operations logs, incident report records, and patient care reports;
*  Drives and/or operates various EMS units;
*  Assists in maintaining ambulances, equipment, cleaning stations and grounds to ensure that emergency vehicles are completely stocked and in good running order;
*  Assists with presentations within the community on safety and medical topics;
*  Provides a public service including attending/being on stand-by at local sporting and
community events;
*  Participates in continuing education training and EMS instruction programs through
individual study of technical material and attendance at scheduled drills/classes
provided by Southside Virginia Emergency Crew and/or Petersburg Fire Department;
*  Performs other duties as required or assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

For employment consideration by SVEC, applicants must meet the following criteria:

- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Must have at least 1 (one) year of pre-hospital care experience
- Must have and maintain an acceptable driving record
- Must have and maintain a clean criminal background
- Must be certified as an EMT and cleared as an AIC

In addition, ALS applicants must possess and provide proof of the following valid certifications:

- EMT-Intermediate or EMT-Paramedic in the state of Virginia
- Healthcare Provider CPR
- Class II EVOC
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS)
- National Incident Management System (NIMS) 100, 200, 700 & 800
