This position of Career EMS Provider is responsible for work in supporting the mission of Southside Virginia Emergency Crew by responding to emergency calls in order to provide basic or advanced life support to the ill and injured, and to transport patients to the most appropriate medical facility for definitive care. The Career EMS Provider assists in maintaining EMS equipment, EMS units, and a clean EMS station. The Career EMS provider will also participate in work related training and should be well versed in the ODEMSA protocols. The Career EMS Provider will work assigned shifts and will report to and work under the direction of the assigned Shift Captain.
For employment consideration by SVEC, all career applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Must have at least 1 (one) year of pre-hospital care experience
- Must have and maintain an acceptable driving record
- Must have and maintain a clean criminal background
- Must be certified as an EMT, at minimum and cleared as an AIC
Career EMS Provider applicants must possess and provide proof of the following minimum valid certifications:
-Virginia Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
-Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Healthcare Provider/Professional
-Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC) Class II or better
-National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) 100, 200, 700 & 800
In addition, ALS applicants must possess and provide proof of the following valid certifications:
-Virginia EMT-Intermediate or EMT-Paramedic
-Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Additional EMS certifications may be submitted to be maintained on your agency training file. These include but not limited to PALS, PHTLS/ITLS, AMLS, ABLS, GEMS, CCEMT, NREMT, etc.

1.) Graduate of an accredited High School or successful completion of a GED Program.
2.) Graduate of an accredited Emergency Medical Technology program.
1.) Minimum of one (1) year experience as an active, released EMS provider in a 911 EMS system.
Transport experience may be considered for ALS applicants only with less than required 911 experience.
