SVEC is a high volume combination EMS organization charged with the mission of providing emergency medical response to the citizens of the city of Petersburg.  SVEC staffs three ALS ambulances in addition to having two additional ambulances that can be staffed ALS upon demand.  Our providers operate out of our main station which houses administration, operations and support divisions.

SVEC employees enjoy a flexible rotating schedule and our volunteers work in tandem with our career staff.  In addition to providing emergency response, members support and work closely with the Petersburg Fire Department and Petersburg Bureau of Police providing standby services, community engagement and cross department special operations.

Volunteers at SVEC are essential to our core mission and get to work beside our talented career staff.  Volunteers staff ambulances, participate in training, attend meetings and drills and help with community events.  To be a volunteer with SVEC, you must be a minimum of 16 years of age or older and have a desire to help others and serve your community.  Ideal volunteers possess strong personal values, integrity and desire to grow personally and professionally in the field of Emergency Medical Services. To learn more and express interest in volunteer membership, please view the volunteer position posting below.

Having a high call volume, high acuity illnesses and progressive protocols makes SVEC a prime agency for BLS & ALS students.  SVEC operates an EMS Intern program where EMS students can complete their clinical field hours and mandatory patient contacts.  Interested students must be actively enrolled in an EMS certification program approved by the Virginia Office of EMS and be in good standing and compliance with the programs clinical standards for field operations.
