Edward B. Bish, Jr – Director of Operations

Edward “Bubby” Bish, Jr.

Edward B. “Bubby” Bish Jr. was appointed as the Director in July of 2006.  Bubby was raised in Petersburg and graduated from Petersburg High School in 1969.  Bubby began his EMS career in 1967 as a junior member of SVEC. Bubby took over operations in 2006 with a staff of 18 full time personnel, 10 part-time personnel and 15 volunteers that staffed two ambulances 24/7.  With the tremendous call load, SVEC has grown to a full scale EMS operation that staffs two Advanced Life Support ambulances 24/7 and a third Advanced Life Support ambulance twelve hours a day, seven days a week and additional ambulances staffed as needed by volunteers.

Jennifer Lewis – Assistant Director of Operations

Jennifer Lewis serves as the Assistant Director of Operations as Southside Virginia Emergency Crew. Lewis has also held several positions within the organization to include her most recent role as shift Captain. Lewis has been instrumental in employee onboarding and scheduling as well as bringing about staffing efficiency using demand analysis. Lewis is a certified Paramedic with several years of pre-hospital care experience.

Mary “Bee” Betts – Deputy Director of Administration

Mary “Bee” Betts currently serves as the Deputy Director of Administration at Southside Virginia Emergency Crew. Deputy Bee has served in many positions of leadership throughout her tenure here at SVEC eventually landing her in the role as the Deputy Director. Bee is a certified Paramedic with over a decade of experience.
